The Cost of Cybercrime is Greater than that of Heroin, Cocaine, and Marijuana

Did that headline grab your attention? It sure did mine.

It seems that Norton, the Symantec division that handles their antivirus, antispyware, antispam programs has done a lot of research and they have released their findings in a "Cybercrime Report". The report takes a look at digital plagues such as viruses, identity theft, online hacking, online harassment, online scams, phishing, and sexual predation. They then come up with some rather amazing numbers of those affected by these digital problems as well as the cost of battling the problems as well as lost productivity, etc.

The info provided is pretty shocking... even for a diehard digital geek like myself.

I coudl sit here and quote all kinds of stats from the reports, but it's easier to just let you digest the info for yourself. Here is a commentary/editorial by Norton's Internet Safety Advocate Marian Merritt. The Report itself, can be found here.

Just remember, prepare to be stunned.
