So when I come to a meeting, I frequently don't have a lot of free time. I'm normally on a schedule of meetings and lectures that really doesn't add up to having much free time to do anything else.
However, today I had a few minutes to hang at the Gendex Bus on the exhibit floor at the ADA. While here, I decided to take a few minutes to actually sit and soak up the feel of the show as well as update the blog . It's interesting as a sit typing away on the Mac and accessing the net via my Sprint Passport wireless hotspot. Convention centers like the Mandalay Bay here in Las Vegas tend to be huge concrete and metal structures. That means that wireless signals don't penetrate very well.
Now there are wifi signals in here, but some of them cost and most are locked down tight with security, so it's kind of funny that while I sit here typing away, people keep coming up to me and saying, "Hey John, can I steal a few minutes of your Wifi?" Who am I to say no?
So many of us have wifi on our phones or our notebooks, tablets, whatever that we don't even think about it. The net is just always there. Suddenly you're in a convention center and you're cut off. Panic sets in and you don't know what to do.
It just goes to show he addicted we've all become to the instantaneous availability of information. Take away Wifi and a lot of us would struggle, maybe more than you know...
By the way, thanks, Sprint, for my really strong 3G signal here in the confines of the convention center. Lots of other providers aren't coming through at all!
