Microsoft Accidentally Identifies Chrome Browser as Malware

Security is getting harder & harder for not only us users, but for computer software folks as well.

Here is a prime example. On September 30th, 2011 Microsoft's "Security Essentials" suite began to identify the Google Chrome browser as malware and began removing it from users computers.

The interesting part of this is that Chrome competes with Internet Explorer and there was immediate speculation that it was done of that reason. However, Microsoft was very quick to correct the mistake with an update and then all was well.

This brings up some points worth thinking about. It is almost impossible anymore to keep track of all the security measures needed for your PC. Because of that, many of us rely on antivirus suites to do this for us. And now that so many changes to our computers happen behind the scenes, it's easy to see how something like this can happen.

While it just isn't practical to expect all of these companies to communicate updates with one another, something will eventually have to be done. If not, look for more incidents like this to be in the media. Frankly I'm amazed it doesn't happen more often.
